I think more at a gallery, similar to my homepage : www.leuchttuerme-koehler.de.
Just a world map, pictures and the history and background of this lighthouse.
I think , I have seen about 20 lighthouse of this background! :D
Thanks, for your interest, Andreas

You can actually try to use wordpress engine - there are gallery plug-ins (i.e. https://wordpress.org/plugins/photo-gallery/ ) so you can upload and manage pictures. The advantage is that wordpress is very easy to deploy, extend and no special knowledge required to work with this site.
PS Feel free to upload such pictures at lightphotos.net as well :)

Dmitry

Thanks Dmitry,  :), I will try later, because I will go to Estonia in the evening for a next wonderful lighthouse trip! I will report about your recommendation!

mitko

Have a nice trip!
If you want later i can deploy for you test wordpress installation, so you can play with it and say if it is okay or not.

Dmitry

Hi Dmitry, back from Estonia I have made a look to WorldPress. It seems, you can only create a gallery and  no description of the history of this historical lighthouse! Another nice tool could be, that anyone can add stories to the history of this lighthouses!?  :D
Greetings from Berlin, Andreas

Wordpress is actually very powerful engine. Generally it is intended to be a blog platform (i.e. shared for many users). But it has of plugins which can extend the functionality (i.e. gallery plugin - is just a one of them) and also themes which can allow to change visual appearance of the site. Plugins and themes can be applied via apploading the file in site management system, so no special knowledge required. Examples of the such wordpress sites you can see here https://wordpress.org/showcase/
So the process is:
1. You're installing somewhere wordpress as the main site engine (it's freeware https://wordpress.org/) Some help from webmaster usially needed on this stage
2. You try different plugins selecting what functions you need - there are thousands of them including social networks integrations, galleries, geo-tags etc https://wordpress.org/plugins/
3. You try different themes to make your site appearance as you wish (also thousands of them https://wordpress.org/themes/ )
4. You start to upload content.

Hi Andreas & Dmitry, I have been looking for somewhere to share my photos and other information related to lighthouses (AtoN) for some years now and I think you site is fantastic, any chance of adding a story section to your site that focuses on a specified light or area?

mitko

Hi Neil!
Thanks for nice words :)
I can create a separate page with blog for stories but i don't have time to fill it by content, if you wish to take care on this - no probs  :)
Best regards,
Dmitry

Sounds good, I will do what I can, it would be great to get everyone involved. It needs to be a place to share history and stories.
