Title: What is the northernmost lighthouse in the world?
Post by: zanskar on October 22, 2019, 06:44:35 AM
It sounds like very simple question, but unfortunately google didn't help me to find an answer. I hope members of the respected Lighthouses socoety can help/
I am interested in classical (tower) type lighthouse made of bricks or/and concrete. It doesn't matter active or abandoned structure.

What is the northernmost lighthouse in the world?

Thanks ;)

Hey! Thanks for interesting question. I've removed another same topic just not to duplicate them.
I dig the database a bit
Norway claims Slettnes lighthouse as the northern one (71°05′22″N)

But actually in Russia many lights are located much more to North. Most of them are wooden structures like this
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=20878 (https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=20878)
But some of them are concrete structures:
Vil'kitskiy lighthouse (73 30.8787 N)
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=11680 (https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=11680)
and even far to North Belukha island lighthouse (76 2.9680 N)
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=13215 (https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=13215)
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=13214 (https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/displayimage.php?pid=13214)
There is very limited information about northern lighhtouses of Russia, but so far i didn't find any other classic lighthouse beyond this latitude.

Thanks for info!
It seems I found (and even visited) it - a one degree more north from Belukha island. It's probably the most northern in the World.
I have to doublecheck and then publish photos and information)
