Lighthouse identification / Re: Islas Medas ?
November 28, 2014, 08:34:27 AM
Islas Medas located on the hill which is much higher than on photo. I bet this is Punta Arnella (east to Cap de Creus). In some old photos there is white building next to it

Now this building is absent which is confusing. Also see construction details - gray bricks and number of windows/doors, Islas Medas is slightly different.

Agreed, this is some strange stuff. Can't explain this right now. But this is definitely not a user tricks. We had few DDOS attacks during site operations, maybe that was the reason...

Hi Michal!

This is really hard to check. Generally for old photos number of view depends from rating of the pic in google - if the page rating is high it would be appear every time in search queries of many people and that's why the number of views will be high. The rating depend from many factors such as external links to the pictures, keywords and if this is a unique photo and not so many pictures of this place in internet - it could be more popular as well.
For new photos, which are not yet indexed well in google, number of view depends mostly from popularity in social networks. Photos are automatically crossposted to twitter (almost all) and FB (some) and sometimes they start to be retweeted or reposted to many people, so the photo gets many views from this.
I think that some of the views could be artificial, coming from search bots, spam bots etc, but it's hard for me to estimate rate of such views in general amount, but i dont think that this rate is really too high.

See attached map.
Creach and Le Stiff accessible by road so car or bike would be okay. Others are offshore, probably you'll need good optics and to walk or ride to coastline from nearest road.

British admiralty list of lights index is for maritime navigation, if light has admiralty index - it is presented at navigation chart as lighthouse. So these lights are both for air and sea simultaneously.

Thanks for correction - agreed for all except Montserrat:
they have two nav lights - Airport tower (admiralty J5688) and one more aerolight 0.5 miles NW from runway - Admiralty J5688.2

Travel center / Isle of Man lighthouses
April 11, 2014, 02:13:51 PM
Isle of Man is self-governing British Crown Dependency in Irish sea. It has rich lighthouse traditions, so i would like to share some pictures made during my trip.
On approach to Douglas (central city) you could see Douglas Head lighthouse:

And inside of Douglas Harbour - Battery Pier lighthouse:

Just a side of the harbour Refuge Tower with navigational light mounted on top

Small town Ramsey, north from Douglas, has two nice lighthouses in the entrance:
North pier:

and South pier:

New pier of famous tourists Castletown:

And Longeness lighthouse seen from same pier far away:

One more town Peel with Castle Pier lighthouse:

And Peel Breakwater lighthouse:

Port Erin Front range lighthouse:

And Ranglin Pier lighthouse:

That's not full set, just some of them i had chance to visit during short trip. But anyway this is great place to go for lighthouses hunt.
