It's always tricky to identify lighthouse on the old painting due to it could be demolished, rebuild or painter could be not very accurate in the details of construction. Anyway let's assume that it still exist and looks relatively same.
Before we move to Europe i would like to check have you considered following options in US:

Connecticut / Five Mile Point lighthouse
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/thumbnails.php?album=light&cat=0&pid=21066

Connecticut / New London Harbor lighthouse
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/thumbnails.php?album=light&cat=0&pid=4248

New Jersey / Sandy Hook lighthouse
https://www.lightphotos.net/photos/thumbnails.php?album=light&cat=0&pid=22887

All of them are:
  • Tall but relatively thick comparing to classic towers
  • Within described age
  • Have relatively small lantern on top comparing to tower width
  • Round or octagonal conic form
  • Except Sandy Hill have a nice beach nearby where the painter could work

So what do you think?

PS I also find few places called Lido Beach - one in NY, one in FL but there is no (and seems never been) lighthouses nearby.

Lighthouse identification / Re: 1940s lighthouse ID
January 23, 2023, 09:09:41 AM
Hi Pete! I did some research on this topic. There are number of "dunce cap" lighthouses in Japan (i.e.
Hiroshima, Fujisawa, Hakata Kō - most of them were build after 1950s)
I would say likely this picture is Yokohama South Outer Breakwater (built 1939).
Here are some other pictures of it:
LH Japan
yamatae.sakura.ne.jp

It has slightly different configuration of windows (but this could be due to tower reconstruction) but general shape of the tower, breakwater and square building nearby - everything is very similar. As far as I've found in internet -  American troops were landed in Yokohama after surrender of Japan so this fits to story as well.

Agreed! It seems this could be different datums...

I bet this is something in Asia, Korea or Japan maybe. Any kind of information about picture could help!

Another option is Strumble Head which also has iron bridge connecting to mainland, but i think South Stack is much better candidate
