Sailed there in 1961, mid december with an icebreaker out of Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Canada, Lake Superior. Once out of the harbor the lake was open and shortly after our passage they closed the locks of the Welland Canal and Saint Lawrence Seaway for the winterperiod.
