The lighthouse of the islet of Escombreras was lit for the first time in 1864, endowed with a 6th order optical device and an oil lamp, giving a fixed red light appearance with a range of 4 miles. The tower, round, rises in the center of the building and had in its upper part, an octagonal lantern with a spherical dome. Inside it was the luminous equipment, formed by a spring piston lamp for olive oil that was replaced, in 1883, by one of paraffin or petroleum. In 1919 the luminous equipment of fixed light is changed, by another one of acetylene with flasher and solar valve, eliminating the fixed personnel of the installation. In 1974 it is reformed again installing a new system of acetylene incandescence and directional optics. The flashlight was also changed. It was electrified with solar panels in 1985, conserving the optics and replacing the lighting equipment and the turning mechanism.

In 1996, this signal is incorporated into the Remote Signal Monitoring System of Maritime Signals, which provides permanent control of the status of the different equipment that has the signal to aid navigation.
